American Baptist Churches of New York State presents
In it for THE LONG HAUL...
Connecting & Encouraging New Clergy

Many pastors leave pastoral ministry within 5 years.  Other pastors serve for decades.

How do pastors find the resilience and resolve to stay in pastoral ministry for the long haul?  How do they thrive rather than just survive?

On September 13-14, 2019, ABCNYS invites pastors in their first few years of ministry at their first permanent/settled pastorate for a time of building collegial connections and exploring common issues in these critical early years of settled pastoral ministry.

We’ll explore questions such as:
  • How are you doing?  What delights and what troubles you?
  • Is pastoral ministry anything like you thought it would be?
  • How are you managing the inevitable stress and challenges that arise in every pastorate?
  • What are the emotional, professional, and spiritual resources that will enable you to stay in it for the long haul?

Our primary leader will be Rev. Douglas Avilesbernal, Executive Minister, Evergreen Baptist Association. Doug  brings insights into ministry as a younger leader in the denomination and former pastor.

COST:   $20 per participant. All other expenses will be underwritten by the New Pastor Initiative portion of the ABCNYS Ministry and Mission Fund.

WHERE & WHEN:   Friday/Saturday, September 13-14, 2019
St Margaret’s House, New Hartford, NY (near Utica)

We start with Friday dinner at 6 PM, stay overnight on site and spend Saturday together  (breakfast/lunch provided) until 3:30 PM.
